Sockets in Rwanda
The plug types you’ll find in Rwanda are Type C and J plugs and sockets.
Type C
Type C sockets have two round pins and no grounding. Unlike Type G, they take a slimmer plug without an earth pin or fuse.
Type J
Type J sockets have two round pins and a third round earth pin slightly offset. UK Type G plugs do not fit into Type J sockets.
Recommended Travel Adaptor for Rwanda
After testing numerous adaptors during real trips, one stood out. It performed best on safety, value and usability. This is the adaptor we suggest you take.
Realised abroad that you’ve left your adaptor behind? You’ll often find them in airports and shops nearby. Still, carrying your own is cheaper and more reliable.
Rwanda is commonly combined with visits to Uganda and Tanzania. Plug types and voltage may differ, so it’s smart to double-check before you go.
Do You Need a Voltage Converter?
You don’t need to worry about a converter in Rwanda; the voltage is virtually identical to what we use in the UK.
Have a look at your device’s voltage label before plugging in abroad. If it says ‘100–240 V, 50/60 Hz’, there’s no need for a converter — laptops, tablets and other modern gadgets usually have this built in.
Top Travel Essentials to Take With You
A few smart extras can make travelling so much easier. A digital luggage scale saves you from nasty surprises at the airport, a power bank keeps your phone alive when you need it most, and packing cubes stop your suitcase turning into chaos. We’ve tried and tested them ourselves, and they really do make a difference.
