Recommended Travel Adaptor for Vietnam
On our travels we tested a wide range of adaptors. In this country, no single adaptor fits every socket, so you’ll want more than one. These are the safest and most reliable choices.
Didn’t pack an adaptor? You can still grab one when you arrive. Still, it’s better to bring your own than risk paying too much for something unreliable.
Vietnam is often combined with nearby countries like Cambodia and Laos. Best to check those pages too — plugs and voltage may vary slightly.
Sockets in Vietnam
The plug types you’ll find in Vietnam are Type A, C, and D plugs and sockets.
Type A
Type A sockets have two flat parallel pins and no grounding. Unlike Type G, they don’t include an earth pin, which makes them less secure.
Type C
Type C sockets have two round pins and no grounding. Unlike Type G, they take a slimmer plug without an earth pin or fuse.
Type D
Type D sockets have three large round pins in a triangular shape. Unlike Type G, they lack a fuse and the pins are round rather than rectangular.
Do You Need a Voltage Converter?
Converters are only useful where voltages vary. In Vietnam, the mains is practically the same as back in Britain, so you won’t need one.
Before you connect to the mains abroad, make sure the label says ‘100–240 V, 50/60 Hz’ — in that case, no voltage converter is needed.
Top Travel Essentials to Take With You
A few smart extras can make travelling so much easier. A digital luggage scale saves you from nasty surprises at the airport, a power bank keeps your phone alive when you need it most, and packing cubes stop your suitcase turning into chaos. We’ve tried and tested them ourselves, and they really do make a difference.
